The Clopay Coachman looks like an old swing-out carriage door, but it rolls up overhead like a normal garage door. It is built in four layers: steel, insulation, a second steel skin and a textured composite overlay that gives it the carriage house trim.

Is the Coachman Right for Your Home?
- You like the carriage house look and want it on a colonial, craftsman or farmhouse-style home.
- Your attached garage runs cold in January. With 2-inch Intellicore foam, the Coachman reaches R-18.4.
- You want a door that shrugs off lake-effect snow and salty slush. The steel is galvanized and coated, and the overlay is composite, not wood.
- You like a two-tone look. The overlay and the base door can be two different light colors.
- If you want a dark color like black or charcoal, choose the Clopay Canyon Ridge Elements instead. The Coachman can’t be painted dark, and doing so voids the warranty.
Design Options
There are 15 designs in four series, from simple crossbuck patterns to more detailed trim. Top sections can be solid or have square, rectangle or arched windows, with seeded, rain, frosted or obscure glass. Mix any of the four standard colors between the overlay and the base, or ask about select ColorBlast shades. Spade handles and step plates come standard, and you can add spear or colonial hardware, strap hinges or a ring knocker.

No. Clopay does not allow the Coachman to be painted dark colors, and doing so will void the warranty. If a dark door is the goal, the Canyon Ridge Elements collection offers dark color options, and we can show you both at the estimate.
You can choose 1-3/8″ polystyrene, 2″ polystyrene or 2″ Intellicore foam. For an attached garage next to living space, we usually suggest Intellicore, since it gives the top R-value of 18.4 and makes the door quieter too.
No. It is a textured composite that sits on top of the steel. That means no rot, no peeling stain and no yearly sanding. Clean it now and then with mild soap and water, especially after a winter of road salt.
