Doylestown sits atop the highest point in Wayne County, surrounded by Chippewa Township in the far northeastern corner of the county, and it had 3,051 residents at the 2020 census. Most of the village, including the Uptown commercial district, is about 1,250 feet above sea level, while Rogues' Hollow, where Silver Creek meets Chippewa Creek, drops to 950 feet.
The census counted 1,262 households in 1,320 housing units, 51.5% of households were married couples, and the median age was 44.3. Those hilltop homes mean sloped driveways and garage doors that work hard in the wind. When yours needs help, call us for same-day service on most calls, often within 1 hour in Doylestown.

For a hilltop garage that takes the wind, a tight-sealing insulated door matters most. We hang Clopay, Wayne Dalton and Amarr doors and pair them with LiftMaster or Chamberlain openers; how installs work, opener picks.
Thomas Frederick of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, became the first settler to build a homestead here in 1813. William Doyle arrived in 1827, bought 50 acres from Frederick and two other early settlers, and persuaded five friends from Pennsylvania to bring their families. On December 9, 1827, one of them, Charles Christmas, surveyed the village, and the survey was recorded on Christmas Day. Its 40 lots make up what is now Uptown, and the first building was a log cabin tavern.
Many early buildings were brick. Brickmaking began in 1834 with a kiln just southwest of the village, and longer-lasting brickyards opened in 1867, 1872 and 1886. Grain and wool mills, a tannery and a distillery followed, but coal was king. A valley to the southeast, first called Nibrara and then Pleasant Valley, got its first commercial mine in 1840 and became known as Rogues' Hollow; by 1940, when the last mine closed, at least 102 mines had operated there. John Seiberling arrived in 1860 to build mowing machines with a self-raking mower, and the village passed 1,000 people by 1896.
Today Doylestown is a bedroom community for larger Northeast Ohio cities, with much of the land around it zoned suburban residential. Its houses range from old brick and frame homes Uptown to newer ones on the edges, and we work on garage doors of every age among them.

At the top of the county, Doylestown catches the wind. Snow drifts against garage doors, cold air gets under a worn bottom seal, and ice forms where meltwater runs down a sloped driveway.
A door on a slope needs its seal and tracks set just right. We check both during a tune-up, along with spring balance and the opener's safety reverse.
Small streams start at springs on the hillside and run down to the creeks around the village: Silver Creek drains the east side, Mill Creek the north and west, and Chippewa Creek the south, collecting both of the others. State Route 585 skims the north and east edges on its way from Norton to Wooster, and State Route 21 runs north and south just east of Silver Creek. Norton, Barberton and New Franklin lie across the Summit County line.
Chippewa Local Schools run Hazel Harvey Elementary, Chippewa Intermediate School and Chippewa Jr./Sr. High School, and the village has a branch of the Wayne County Public Library. Fashion designer Linda Allard and former Syracuse football coach Reaves Baysinger are among Doylestown's notable people.
