- You want a clean, traditional raised-panel look that suits colonials, ranches and bungalows common around Cleveland and Akron.
- You’re replacing a worn door and want to pick how much insulation to pay for. A detached garage may only need 1 or 2 layers, while an attached one does better with 3.
- The garage is next to a bedroom or kitchen and winter drafts are a problem. The 2-inch Intellicore option reaches an R-value of 18.4.
- Steel skins get galvanizing plus a baked-on primer and top coat, which helps against salt spray from plowed streets.
- If you’d rather have the look of an old swing-out barn door, a carriage house style like Clopay Gallery Steel or Coachman will fit better.
Design Options
Start with the panel: short or long. Three-layer doors use the Elegant panel style, and 1- and 2-layer doors use the Traditional style. Next, choose a color from 14 options, including wood-grain Ultra-Grain finishes, or order a ColorBlast shade. Top sections can stay solid or take a decorative insert, arched or plain window, and some models offer specialty glass for privacy.

A 1-layer door is a single steel skin. A 2-layer door adds insulation on the back. A 3-layer door sandwiches insulation between two steel skins, which makes it stronger, quieter and warmer. For attached Ohio garages, we usually suggest 3 layers.
Intellicore is foam that fills the whole door and gives the top R-value of 18.4. Polystyrene uses panels and costs less. If you heat your garage or use it as a workshop in winter, Intellicore is worth a look. We’ll explain both at the estimate.
Yes. Classic Steel comes in Ultra-Grain finishes, such as Cypress in medium, cherry or walnut tones, on some models. You get a wood-grain look with a painted steel surface, so there’s no staining or sealing to keep up with.
