$49 Garage Door Tune-Up

Quieter, safer and longer-lasting, for $49.

Mr. Pro, the Proactive Garage Door Repair mascot

Most garage door breakdowns start as small problems: dry rollers, loose hardware, a door that's slowly going out of balance. A yearly tune-up catches them early. Proactive Garage Door Repair's $49 tune-up (per door, for residential garage doors) is available across Brunswick, Medina County and Northeast Ohio. Want two visits a year? See our $89 yearly maintenance plan.

What the $49 Tune-Up Includes

A full check of the door and opener

  • Lubricate springs, rollers, hinges and bearings.
  • Tighten hinges, brackets and track bolts.
  • Test the door's balance.
  • Inspect springs, cables and drums for wear.
  • Check rollers and the weather seal at the bottom of the door.
  • Test the opener, the safety sensors and the auto-reverse.

Why a Yearly Tune-Up Pays Off

Northeast Ohio winters are hard on garage doors: cold makes springs brittle, road salt rusts the hardware, and ice builds up along the bottom seal. A tune-up in the fall helps your door get through winter, and it helps springs and openers last longer.

If We Find a Problem

If the tune-up finds a worn part, we show it to you and give you the price before doing anything. You decide. Common findings:

Garage door spring repair by Proactive Garage Door Repair

Garage Door Spring Repair

A broken torsion or extension spring leaves the door too heavy to lift safely and is the most common garage door failure in Northeast Ohio winters. Because a spring under tension is dangerous to handle, this is a job for a trained technician. We cover it in full on our dedicated page.

Garage Door Opener Repair

Openers are built to last 10 to 15 years, but they slow down, get noisy, or stop responding when they wear or lose alignment. We diagnose and repair LiftMaster, Chamberlain, and Genie openers, and handle new opener installation on our

opener page.

Broken Cable Repair

Garage door cables carry the full weight of the door alongside the springs, so a frayed or snapped cable makes the door unsafe to operate. Proactive replaces worn lift and retaining cables for residential and commercial doors, inspects the drums and pulleys for related wear, and restores safe, balanced operation. Our technicians handle this repair every day.

Garage Door Roller Repair

Worn rollers make a door move roughly, run loud, and put extra strain on the opener and tracks. We replace damaged rollers with quiet nylon rollers for smoother, quieter operation and check the surrounding hardware while we are there. Staying ahead of roller wear protects the rest of the door and helps you avoid a larger repair later. If a roller has already failed, we can usually replace it the same day.

Remote and Sensor Repair

When a door will not respond or reverses for no reason, the cause is often the remote, the receiver, or a misaligned safety sensor rather than the door itself. Proactive diagnoses remote and sensor faults, realigns and tests the photo-eye sensors, and reprograms remotes and keypads so your door opens reliably and stops safely on an obstruction.

Garage door emergency?

A door stuck open, a spring that snapped under tension, or an entrance you cannot secure needs a fast response. Proactive Garage Door Repair is available 24/7 across Brunswick and Northeast Ohio, and a real human answers, never AI.

Excellent service and highly recommended! I called them initially for routine garage door maintenance, but during the inspection, they identified that the spring was broken. I had been experiencing issues in the past with the garage door not opening or closing properly, and they were able to identify the underlying problem quickly. They recommended replacing the spring with higher-quality rods and drums, and I’m very happy with the result. I could immediately feel the difference after the repair—the garage door feels much stronger, smoother, and more secure than before. The team was professional, knowledgeable, and took the time to explain what needed to be done and why. I really appreciate their honest recommendation and quality of work. Great experience from start to finish. I would definitely recommend them to anyone needing garage door repair or maintenance!

Frequently Asked Questions

WD-40 cleans but does not lubricate for long. Use a garage door lubricant or white lithium grease on hinges, rollers and springs. Do not grease the tracks.

Test the auto-reverse, check the bottom seal, and listen for new noises. Our $49 tune-up checks springs, cables and the opener before the cold sets in.

Use a lubricant made for garage doors, usually a silicone spray or a white lithium grease spray. Put a light coat on the hinges, roller bearings and springs, and on the opener chain if you have one. Wipe off the extra so it doesn’t collect dirt. Our maintenance plan comes with a free can of lubricant spray.

About every six months is a good rule, with one round before winter here in Northeast Ohio. If you use the door many times a day, do it a little more often. Our tune-up includes lubricating all the moving parts.

Close the door and unplug the opener. Wipe the inside of each track with a damp cloth and a mild household cleaner, remove old grease or dirt, then dry it. Don’t try to bend or adjust the tracks yourself. If a track looks bent, call us.

No. Grease in the tracks catches dirt and can make the rollers slide instead of roll. Keep the tracks clean and dry, and lubricate the hinges and roller bearings instead.

Regular WD-40 is mostly a cleaner, and it dries out fast, so the squeak comes back. Wipe the parts and use a garage door lubricant instead. If it still squeaks or grinds, worn rollers, hinges or bearings may need replacing, and we can check them on a tune-up.

Once a year for most homes. If the garage is your main entrance, twice a year is better.

Close the door and pull the opener’s release cord so you can move the door by hand. Lift it 3 to 4 feet off the floor and let go. A balanced door stays put. If it drops or rises on its own, the springs need adjusting. Don’t adjust springs yourself, because they are under high tension. We check and set the balance on every tune-up.

With the door open, lay a 2×4 flat on the floor in the middle of the opening and close the door with the remote. The door should go back up when it touches the board. Also pass an object through the sensor beam while the door is closing: it should reverse. If it fails either test, stop using the opener and call us at (440) 876-4444.

Once a year, and more often in winter when road salt splashes on it. Mix a mild household detergent in a bucket of warm water, wash with a soft sponge, rinse well and clean the windows with glass cleaner. Don’t use bleach or a pressure washer. On a wood door, check the finish every year and refinish it when it starts to wear.

Fill in the call-back form on this page. Our office will call you back to schedule your visit. For repairs and emergencies, call (440) 876-4444.

Usually about 30 to 45 minutes. The time can vary with the door, the opener and what we find during the check. If we find a worn part, we show it to you and give you the price before doing anything, so a repair only adds time if you say yes.

Yes. We test the opener, the safety sensors and the auto-reverse, and adjust the settings if needed.

We show you, explain it, and give you the price. Nothing is replaced without your OK.

The tune-up is $49 per door, so two doors are $98. Want a discount for more doors? Our yearly maintenance plan gives 10% off for 2 doors and 15% off for 3.

The $49 tune-up is for residential doors only. Commercial doors have their own maintenance program; call (440) 876-4444 for details.

We are an authorized dealer for Clopay, Amarr (Amarr by Andersen) and Wayne Dalton garage doors, and for Genie, LiftMaster and Chamberlain openers. We also repair Craftsman openers and service C.H.I. doors and most other brands.

Yes. We accept all types of payment, including Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express. Financing is available through Wisetack for new doors, openers and larger repairs, and we work with all insurance companies. Checking if you qualify is a soft credit check, so it won’t affect your credit score. You get a decision in seconds. All financing is subject to credit approval. If a car or a storm damaged your door, we can give you a written estimate and photos for your claim.
