Sugarcreek, known as "The Little Switzerland of Ohio", is a Tuscarawas County village of 2,373 people (2020) on the South Fork of Sugar Creek, in Ohio's Amish Country. Its Amish community is part of the larger Holmes County Amish settlement. In 2010 its 904 households lived in 967 homes; 62.2% were married couples, and the median age was exactly 40.
Village homes and the dairy farms around them both rely on overhead doors. When yours breaks, ring Proactive for same-day service on most calls, often within 1 hour at your Sugarcreek address.

New Clopay, Wayne Dalton and Amarr doors, insulated for attached garages (door installation), and Chamberlain and LiftMaster operators (opener installation).
Sugarcreek's beginnings were rooted in cheese. Swiss immigrants arrived in the early 1830s and made their cheese with milk from Amish dairy farms. Nearby, Anthony Shane had founded Shanesville in 1814 where two Indian trails crossed, the route of today's State Routes 39 and 93. When the railroads came in the mid-19th century, Sugarcreek, then called East Shanesville, outgrew it, and in 1969 the two were merged under the Sugarcreek name.
In the 1950s residents started an annual Ohio Swiss Festival, and its success led local leaders to remake the town as a Swiss village starting in 1965. For decades a steam passenger train also ran between Sugarcreek and Baltic, until 2004. The census shows the growth: 243 people in 1900, 982 in 1960 and 1,771 in 1970, reaching 2,220 in 2010. Village houses have attached and detached garages, and the farms around town have outbuildings with wide sectional doors.

Open dairy country surrounds the village, and winter wind and cold hit garage doors hard. Springs weaken, seals stiffen and wide outbuilding doors get heavy with ice.
A fall tune-up balances the door and lubricates the hardware before the first freeze.
One of the world's largest cuckoo clocks stands in the center of town, at Main Street and North Broadway, and it was featured on the cover of the Guinness World Records book in 1977. Built in 1972 and moved to downtown Sugarcreek in 2012, where volunteers and local officials repaired it, the timber facade has a five-piece band and a dancing couple that perform to polka music on the half-hour as a cuckoo bird emerges. Viewing is free.
Garaway High School and Junior High are in Sugarcreek, and the high school's mascot is a pirate. Miller Avenue Elementary is one of the district's four elementary schools; the others are in Ragersville, Baltic and Dundee. The district was formed in 1960, when Sugarcreek, Shanesville, Baltic, Ragersville and Dundee consolidated, and its name combines parts of Sugar Creek, Auburn and Wayne townships. The county library keeps a Sugarcreek branch, and the village occupies the western part of Sugar Creek Township, home to 4,464 people in 2020 and one of five Sugar Creek Townships in Ohio.

Yes, as long as it is a sectional overhead door; barn doors of that kind take the same parts and care as a house door.
