What We Do in Brunswick Hills Township

Brunswick Hills Township is one of the seventeen townships of Medina County, and it's the only Brunswick Hills Township in Ohio. It lies in the north of the county. The city of Brunswick takes up the center and the northeast, and the township land wraps around it. At the 2020 census, 11,196 people lived here.

Our office is in Brunswick, so township homes are some of our closest neighbors. We fix broken springs, frayed cables, bent tracks and stubborn openers, we install new doors and openers, and we answer 24/7.

Township Repairs We Do Most

  • Builder springs that are used up. We replace both torsion springs together, sized to the actual door weight, and offer high-cycle springs for busy households. Read about springs.
  • Frayed lift cables on heavy two-car doors. More on cables.
  • Two or three openers that won't cooperate, lost remotes and dead keypads. We repair Genie, Craftsman, LiftMaster and Chamberlain models. See opener help.
  • Safety eyes knocked crooked by bikes, bins and snow shovels. See sensor fixes.
  • Detached garages and outbuildings on older lots, with worn tracks and rollers. See tracks and rollers.

Door and Opener Upgrades Around Brunswick

A lot of 2000s homes in the township still have the door they were built with. If the panels are dented, the finish is fading or the door is just loud, a new one refreshes the whole front of the house. Over a bonus room, an insulated door and a quiet belt-drive opener make a real difference upstairs. We install Clopay, Wayne Dalton and Amarr doors. See installation.

On the opener side, LiftMaster, Genie and Chamberlain units bring phone control and optional battery backup. With two or three doors, a single app controls every one of them. See openers.

A Township That Doubled in Ten Years

The township began as Brunswick Township in 1818, the year 167 people were counted here. It grew to 1,116 by 1840 and 1,417 by 1850, then dipped to 943 by 1880. In 1960 the city of Brunswick incorporated, and the township around it took the name Brunswick Hills that same year. Only 1,085 people lived in the township then.

After that, homes kept coming: 2,293 residents in 1970, 3,324 in 1980, 4,328 in 1990 and 5,469 in 2000. Then the township nearly doubled in a single decade, to 9,898 by 2010, and reached 11,196 in 2020. The 2023 estimate was 11,392.

What that means for your garage: a big share of township homes were built in the last 25 years. If yours is one of them, you likely have a two- or three-car garage, a wide door on torsion springs and an opener the builder installed. Builder springs are usually rated for around ten thousand open-and-close cycles, and a busy family can use that up in well under ten years. So a lot of township springs are due right now. If your home is one of the older farmhouses on a township road, the garage may be a separate building with an older door, and it needs a different kind of care.

Winter at 1,000 Feet

Most of the township sits about 1,001 feet up. Hard freezes, drifting snow and a lot of road salt are part of every winter here. Cold is when a worn spring finally lets go, and a big two-car door gets very heavy once it does.

Wide insulated doors have one more cold-weather habit. After a thaw and a refreeze, the long bottom seal can stick to the driveway. If the door won't move, leave the opener alone and call us. Forcing it can bend the top section or burn out the motor.

Borders of Brunswick Hills

On the north side, the township meets Strongsville, with North Royalton off its northeast corner. Hinckley Township lies east, Granger Township southeast and Medina Township south. York Township sits off the southwest corner, Liverpool Township is the western neighbor, and Columbia Township in Lorain County touches the northwest.

The township hall is at 1918 Pearl Road. Pearl Road is U.S. Route 42, the same road that runs from Cleveland to Medina. Township addresses use Brunswick mail and ZIP code 44212, and part of the township is in the Highland Local School District.

Brunswick Hills Township Questions

Not at all. Township homes share Brunswick’s 44212 ZIP code, and we cover both the city and the township.

Quite possibly. Standard builder springs are usually rated for about ten thousand cycles. If your family opens the door four or five times a day, that’s only about six or seven years. Signs include a door that feels heavy, gaps in the spring coil or an opener that strains.

Yes, if it’s a sectional overhead door. Outbuilding doors are often wide and heavy, so we size the springs to that door.

Yes. The yearly maintenance plan is priced per door for homes, and each visit covers springs, cables, rollers and the opener.

Torsion springs sit on a bar above the door and twist to lift it. Extension springs run beside the tracks and stretch. Most township homes from the 2000s have torsion springs. Older garages and some outbuildings still use the stretch type, which needs safety cables so a broken spring can’t fly loose.
