What We Do in Strongsville

Strongsville calls itself the Crossroads of the Nation. The nickname began with a crossing of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad and an electric line to Wooster, and today it fits the spot where Interstate 71 meets the Ohio Turnpike. The 2020 census counted 46,491 residents in 18,643 households, with 19,406 housing units.

That's a lot of garages to keep running. We repair springs, cables, rollers, off-track doors, openers and sensors in every part of Strongsville, and we install new doors and openers for homes and businesses.

Repairs for Every Strongsville Era

  • Springs, old style and new. On boom-era garages we swap stretched extension springs and run a safety cable through each one. On newer doors we replace torsion springs, and families who use the door all day can step up to high-cycle springs. See spring repair.
  • Frayed cables at the bottom corners, where winter salt collects. See cable repair.
  • Doors pulled out of line by a car bumper, a cracked roller or a loose track bolt. See off-track repair.
  • Openers, keypads and safety eyes. We service LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie and Craftsman openers. See opener repair and sensor repair.

New Doors and Openers in Strongsville

Many Strongsville homes are old enough for a second or even third door. In a 1960s or 1970s house, the opening may be narrower or the headroom lower than today's standard, so measuring comes first. In a 1990s or 2000s house, you likely have a double door or two singles, and an insulated upgrade cuts noise and holds heat in an attached garage.

We install Clopay, Amarr and Wayne Dalton doors and insulated models, plus LiftMaster, Chamberlain and Genie openers with phone control. Current deals: $200 off a new door with free haul-away, and a free keypad with a new opener. See door installation and opener installation.

Doors for the Business and Technology Park

Strongsville is home to the Strongsville Business & Technology Park, the largest industrial park in Northeast Ohio. Buildings there depend on overhead doors, dock doors and operators that cycle many times a day. When one sticks or breaks, we repair it. See commercial door repair and commercial operators.

Two Centuries of Strongsville Homes

Strongsville's story starts in 1816, when John Stoughton Strong led a group of settlers into the newly purchased Connecticut Western Reserve. They cleared land and built log cabins, and on February 25, 1818, the area officially became a township. Strong had the first mill built in 1820 on the Rocky River in Albion. Many main streets still carry the names of early families, such as Howe, Drake, Shurmer and Whitney.

For more than a century it stayed rural. Strongsville became a village in 1923 and had just 3,504 people in 1950. Then the houses came: 8,504 residents in 1960, 15,182 in 1970, 28,577 in 1980 and 43,858 by 2000. It became a city in 1961, right as the boom took hold.

So the typical Strongsville garage was built sometime between the 1960s and the early 2000s. If your home is from the 1960s or 1970s, you may still have a single-width door, extension springs along the tracks or an opener with no safety sensors. A 1980s or 1990s house often has a two-car door on torsion springs and is on its second or third opener. The newest homes tend to have wide, heavy insulated doors that need springs matched to their weight.

Rocky River Valley Winters

The east branch of the Rocky River runs through Strongsville, coming in from North Royalton and leaving toward Berea. The valley is pretty, but the city still gets full Northeast Ohio winters, with hard freezes, snow and plenty of salt.

Springs are the first thing to fail in a cold snap, and a heavy insulated door puts even more strain on them. A snapped spring can trap the car inside on a school morning. Salt from I-71, the Turnpike and Pearl Road rides in on your tires and settles by the bottom brackets, so the cables rust there first. If the door freezes shut, leave the opener button alone and give us a call.

Getting Around Strongsville

Interstate 71 runs through the city and meets the Ohio Turnpike here. Pearl Road and Royalton Road carry most of the local traffic, and Valley Parkway follows the Rocky River through the Mill Stream Run Reservation. Mail uses ZIP codes 44136 and 44149.

Around the city we also serve North Royalton, Berea, Middleburg Heights, Olmsted Township, Columbia Township, Brunswick, Brunswick Hills Township and Hinckley.

Strongsville, Area by Area

Historic buildings and the Commons

Four Strongsville buildings are on the National Register of Historic Places: the Strongsville Town Hall, the John Stoughton Strong House, the Valerius C. Stone House and the Alanson Pomeroy House. The Pomeroy House was built in 1847 and was a stop on the Underground Railroad. The Strongsville Commons and Clock Tower host the Homecoming, the Rib Burnoff and the Winter Lighting Ceremony, and Town Center Park opened in 2024 with a pavilion, two playgrounds and courts for tennis and pickleball. If your house is one of the older ones in town, expect older framing and a door size that isn't standard.

Along Pearl Road

Pearl Road has some easy landmarks. Strongsville Middle School, at 13200 Pearl Road, opened for the 2016-2017 school year and combined the old Center and Albion middle schools. Gardenview Horticultural Park, at 16711 Pearl Road, is a 16-acre garden that Henry Ross began in 1949 on a lot full of blackberry brambles and clay.

Royalton Road, Lunn Road and the schools

Strongsville High School, home of the Mustangs, is at 20025 Lunn Road. Muraski Elementary sits on Royalton Road. The other elementary schools are Chapman on Drake Road, Kinsner on Waterford Parkway, Surrarrer on Priem Road and Whitney on Whitney Road. Name the closest school when you call and we'll find you fast.

Mill Stream Run and the Rocky River

Mill Stream Run is the largest reservation in the Cleveland Metroparks' Emerald Necklace. Bonnie Park is its hub for hiking, bridle and paved trails, and the dam and foundation of Strong's 1820 mill still sit there. Its toboggan chutes are found nowhere else in Ohio. If your home backs up to these woods, shade and damp keep the bottom of the door wet longer, so seals and wood trim wear out sooner.

Beebetown

Beebetown, one of Strongsville's historic neighborhoods, grew where the Strongsville and Liverpool corners meet. Abram Beebe arrived in 1823, the Fullers built the first frame house there, and the Beebetown Baptist Church was first built in 1852. Several houses in the area date back to the 1800s. On a property that old, the garage was likely added much later, so we check the opening and headroom carefully before quoting a door.

Strongsville Questions

Both of them, 44136 and 44149. If your address says Strongsville, we cover it 24/7.

Look at the floor on each side of the door. If there are no small sensor eyes there, the opener has no auto-reverse eyes and should be replaced. If it has them but is noisy or slow, a repair may be enough. We’ll tell you straight which makes more sense.

Yes: sectional doors, dock doors and commercial operators. See our commercial door repair page.

It can. Shade and damp from the woods keep seals and the bottom panel wet longer. We check wood doors for rot, replace torn seals and use hardware that stands up to rust.

Yes. Day or night, a real human answers your call, never AI. Our technicians are nearby, so we’re often at your door within 30 to 60 minutes, and same day on most calls. We act right away, give you an arrival time on the phone, and call you when we’re on the way.
