New London, a Huron County village of 2,416 (2020 census), was first settled for good in 1816 and incorporated in 1853. New London Township wraps around it on the north, west and east, and Ruggles Township in Ashland County lies to the south. Back in 2010 the village held 960 households in 1,103 housing units: 35.8% of them were raising children, 47.7% were married couples, and half of all residents were younger than 37.4.
Young families mean garage doors that work hard from breakfast to bedtime. When yours won't budge, phone Proactive for same-day service on most calls, often within 1 hour at your New London house. We're available 24/7.

For a single-car garage behind an older village house, a plain steel door, Wayne Dalton or Clopay, is often all it needs; an Amarr insulated model suits an attached two-car garage (door installation). LiftMaster and Chamberlain operators are what we mount (opener installation).
The village was named after New London, Connecticut, home of a share of its early settlers. In the early 20th century New London, popularly called "Ferretville", was the center of the American ferret industry, and the surrounding region raised around 20,000 ferrets a year. The village also has a Carnegie library, built in 1914 and open since 1916. In 2010 the census counted 2,461 residents, 26.8% of them under 18 and 14.7% aged 65 or older, and households averaged 2.51 people.
New London grew slowly and steadily, from 678 people in 1870 to 1,557 in 1910 and 2,023 in 1950, and reached 2,696 in 2000. Houses from every part of that stretch still stand, so we see small detached garages with single doors next to newer homes with attached two-car garages, and plenty of original springs and openers that have reached the end of their life.

New London's open fields make for raw, windy winters in the southeast corner of Huron County. Snow drifts across driveways and against doors, and deep cold makes old springs brittle and rubber seals stiff as a board.
A door that starts to sound or move differently is asking for attention; call before it fails. A once-a-year tune-up is the easiest way to avoid a stuck car on a January morning.
The village occupies the southern part of New London Township, which was organized in 1817, counted 3,226 residents in 2020 and, like the village, was named after New London, Connecticut, the hometown of many of its pioneer settlers. The township belongs to the original Ohio Firelands, the region settled by people from Connecticut towns largely destroyed during the Revolutionary War, and no other Ohio township carries its name.
Architect Philip Johnson, television personality Robin Meade and painter Glenora Richards all have New London roots, and the Carnegie library that opened in 1916 still serves the village.

Yes. The roads around the village and down toward the Ashland County line are part of our Huron County area.
If the panels are straight and solid, fresh springs, rollers and cables usually buy years more; badly rusted or cracked sections are the point where replacing makes sense.
