On the eastern side of Medina County, next to the Summit County line, is Sharon Township. The 2020 census found 5,966 people here, and 918 of them lived in Sharon Center, the census-designated place at the township's center. A small piece of the city of Wadsworth also reaches into the south end.

The first settlement at Sharon Center was made in 1816. A post office called Sharon Centre opened in 1833, and in 1893 the spelling changed to Sharon Center. Sharon Center was first listed as a census-designated place before the 2020 census.
Many Sharon Township homes sit along country roads rather than on tight city blocks, and that shapes the garages. You may have an attached two- or three-car garage with wide doors, or a detached garage or outbuilding, sometimes with a second overhead door for a tractor or a trailer. A wide or tall door weighs a lot, and its springs must be sized for that weight. Put the wrong spring on a heavy door and it wears out the opener, too.
Sharon Center sits at about 1,129 feet, and the township as a whole at about 1,040. Open fields let winter wind pile snow against garage doors. Sharon Center is drained by Wolf Creek, an east-flowing tributary of the Tuscarawas River, and low spots near a creek stay damp.
Wind-driven snow and damp air are hard on the bottom of a door. Seals crack, wood trim rots and cables rust at the bottom brackets. A fall check catches those problems before the first storm.
At the center of Sharon Center, State Routes 94 and 162 meet in a large traffic circle. In the middle is a park with a gazebo and memorials to veterans of several wars. Route 94 then meets State Route 18 on the Granger Township line.
Granger lies north of Sharon, Copley Township in Summit County is east, Wadsworth Township is south and Montville Township is west. Bath, Norton, Guilford Township and Medina Township each touch a corner. Township mail comes through the Wadsworth or Medina post office, and Sharon Center has its own ZIP code, 44274.
Most township children attend Highland schools. The Highland Local School District was set up in 1952 by joining the rural Hinckley, Granger and Sharon districts, and Sharon Elementary sits on Ridge Road.
