Jeromesville is one of the smallest places we serve: 531 residents and 232 housing units at the 2020 count, tucked into the northwest corner of Mohican Township in Ashland County. It is also where the Hillsdale Local School District keeps its home base.
Small does not mean fewer garage problems. Barns, pole buildings and village garages all have overhead doors, and when one jams we come out, usually the same day.

Houses in the village and outbuildings in the township both take standard sectional doors. We fit Amarr, Wayne Dalton and Clopay models and pair them with LiftMaster or Chamberlain openers where there is power; installation details and opener choices explain more.
Jeromesville was platted in 1815 near the site of an abandoned Native American village called Jerometown. It is named for Jean, or John, Baptiste Jerome, a French-Canadian fur trader and pioneer settler. Christian Deardorf and William Vaughn bought land from him and founded the new village, first spelled Jeromeville, and a post office has operated here since 1816.
Mohican Township around it was established in 1812. Mahicans and other tribes once lived within its borders, and it is the only Mohican Township in Ohio, with 2,078 residents in 2020. The village has stayed small for generations: 328 people in 1870, 513 in 1950 and 582 in both 1980 and 1990. At the 2010 census 41.3% of its households had children under 18, and the median age was 33.3.
That makes for a lot of family garages, often with an older single or double door and a bike or two parked close to the photo-eyes. We fix springs, cables and openers, and realign sensors that get bumped.
Open farmland around the village gives the wind a long run, and drifting snow piles up against garage doors. An uninsulated garage gets as cold as the outdoors, which is hard on springs and opener lubricant alike.
Fresh weatherstrip plus an insulated door will keep drifts out; a yearly balance-and-lube visit keeps the springs honest.
The Hillsdale Local School District, headquartered in Jeromesville, runs one elementary school, one middle school and Hillsdale High School, and work on a new combined campus started on September 30, 2020. Mohican Township touches Perry Township on the north, Vermillion Township, home of Hayesville, on the west, and Wayne County's Plain Township on the east. The county itself was formed in 1846 from parts of Huron, Lorain, Richland and Wayne counties.
