Wadsworth is one of the oldest towns in Medina County. It was founded on March 1, 1814, and named after General Elijah Wadsworth, a Revolutionary War hero and War of 1812 officer who owned the largest share of the land that became the county. At the 2020 census, 24,007 people lived here.

A post office called Wadsworth has been open since 1823, and the town has grown in almost every census since 1880, when it had 1,219 people. It roughly tripled between 1900 and 1940, from 1,764 to 6,495 residents. It passed 10,000 in 1960 and kept climbing: 18,437 in 2000, 21,567 in 2010 and 24,007 in 2020. The 2020 count found 10,335 housing units.

That steady climb gives Wadsworth a real mix of garages. Some houses date from the early 1900s, and more went up in the decades after the war. A big share are recent. The city added more than 5,500 people between 2000 and 2020, so many garages here are still on their first or second set of springs.

Wadsworth is just south of the Saint Lawrence River Divide, and its official elevation is 1,165 feet. It's still Northeast Ohio, though, and winter here is hard on garage doors.

The Wadsworth City School District is the largest employer in the city. Sacred Heart School teaches kindergarten through 8th grade, and the Wadsworth Public Library serves the whole city.
