Settlement began in 1815 near the spot where State Route 87 now crosses the Chagrin River. Orange Township, set up in 1820, was known for steam sawmills, cheese factories and farms. James A. Garfield, the 20th President of the United States, was born here in 1831, when the land still belonged to the township. That October the Orange Conference of the Latter-day Saints was held at a house near today's Route 87 and Chagrin River Road.
The Cleveland-Chagrin Falls Railway arrived in 1897 as a commuter line, and people began building homes so they could ride into the city for work. Moreland Hills incorporated as a village in 1929, taking in the southeast quadrant of the old township, and adopted its charter in 1972. Its population went from 1,040 in 1950 to 2,188 in 1960 and 3,354 by 1990.
Today there are 1,396 housing units, and the median age is 49.5. Houses from nearly every decade since the railway line the village's roads, so a service call here might mean a prewar wood door one day and a new three-car door the next.
The South Chagrin Reservation of Cleveland Metroparks spans parts of Moreland Hills, Solon and Bentleyville and follows a scenic stretch of the river. Morning fog settles into the valley, while the higher ground, at about 1,040 feet, catches wind and drifting snow.

Yes. We fit a new bottom seal and, if needed, new side and top weatherstrip. A tight seal keeps out rodents, leaves and water.
