Westlake is a business center too. Several large companies are headquartered here, and a big mixed-use development combines shops, offices and hundreds of apartments. Settlers arrived here on October 10, 1810, when the land was part of Dover Township. Pieces of the township left over time: the north broke away in 1901 to become Bay Village, and a southern part joined North Olmsted in 1912. The rest formed Dover Village in 1913. There was already a city called Dover in Tuscarawas County, so in 1940 the village took the name Westlake, and it became a city in 1957.
Westlake's growth has been steady for a long time. The population rose from 4,912 in 1950 to 12,906 in 1960, 19,475 in 1980, 27,018 in 1990 and 31,719 in 2000. The local library recalls that by 1957 the community was growing at about one family per day.
So Westlake garages come from many decades. A 1950s ranch may still hang its single door on old hardware. A 1980s colonial has likely gone through more than one opener. And the big houses built around the turn of the century often have heavy two- and three-car doors whose first springs are wearing out now. We work on all of them.
Westlake isn't on the shore, but at about 709 feet it still gets its share of lake-driven snow, wind and freezing drizzle. Salted roads like Center Ridge and Dover Center send slush into every garage.

Interstate 90 crosses the north part of the city, with exits at Crocker and Bassett Roads, Columbia Road and Clague Road. Center Ridge Road is home to the Westlake Porter Public Library, which traces its start to Leonard Porter's 1884 gift to Dover Township for a public library.
Westlake City Schools include Westlake Elementary, built in 2019 on Center Ridge Road, Dover Intermediate and Lee Burneson Middle School side by side on Dover Center Road, and Westlake High School, rebuilt in 2013, home of the Demons.
