Two of the community's earliest historic sites still stand: the Austintown Log House, built in 1814, and the Judge William Shaw Anderson House, built in 1831. The Anderson house, also called the Strock Stone House, was built from huge sandstone blocks, some as heavy as 750 pounds, quarried from Stony Ridge on South Turner Road, and its first residents were carpenter William Strock and his family. Judge Anderson lived there from 1890 to 1925 and enlarged it between 1912 and 1918, adding a sun porch, a dining room and central heat. In 1929 his children sold the house and land to the Mahoning Valley Sanitary District, and it was the home of the district's chief engineer until 1985. Listed on the National Register in 1976, it is now kept by the Austintown Historical Society with the district's help, furnished with period pieces from antique washing machines in the basement to a printing press and two 1920 Remington typewriters in the office, and it opens for free guided tours on the first Sunday of each month from March through December.

Austintown Fitch High School opened in 1916 as Austintown Centralized School, consolidating several one-room schools, and took the name of John H. Fitch, who donated its land, in 1924; classes moved to the present campus in 1968. The Fitch Falcons have won state titles in boys basketball (1931), bowling and cross country, and in softball in 2023 and 2024. The township, home to 36,049 people and the only Austintown Township in Ohio, has the Meander Creek Reservoir on its west side and Ax Factory Run, with Woodside Lake along its course, flowing west to east through the middle, and State Route 11, Interstate 80 and Interstate 680 all cross the township. George Shuba, remembered for a handshake with Jackie Robinson that helped break down baseball's color barrier, and major league umpire Brian O'Nora both have Austintown roots.
