Out on the eastern edge of Medina County, where it meets Summit County, is Granger Township, home to 4,556 people at the 2020 census. No cities or villages sit inside its borders, so every home here is a township home.

Granger Township was organized in 1820. Residents picked the name by popular vote, in honor of Gideon Granger, a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives who became the fourth U.S. Postmaster General. Granger was appointed by Thomas Jefferson in 1801 and served until 1814, and he's still the longest-serving Postmaster General. Granger was born in Suffield, Connecticut, studied at Yale and later settled in Canandaigua, New York, where his home is now a museum. It's the only Granger Township in Ohio.
With no village center, homes here are spread along country roads. You might have an attached garage with two or three doors, or a detached garage or outbuilding with a wide or tall door. If your garage came before the house was updated, or was built by a previous owner, the door and springs may not match. We check the door's weight and balance before we change anything.
Granger sits about 1,138 feet above sea level. Winter wind crosses open fields and piles snow against any door that faces it. Deep cold also weakens springs and turns roller grease stiff.
When ice locks the bottom seal to the concrete, stop pressing the button. The motor can bend the top panel or strip its gear. If a spring breaks, leave the door down and call us.
Granger borders Hinckley Township to the north, Bath Township in Summit County to the east, Sharon Township to the south and Medina Township to the west. Richfield Township, Copley Township, Montville Township and Brunswick Hills Township meet it at the corners.
Interstate 271 has an exit at State Route 94 in the township, and State Route 94 crosses State Route 18 on the line with Sharon Township. Highland High School, home of the Hornets, is at 4150 Ridge Road in Granger Township. It opened in 1952, when the Hinckley, Granger and Sharon school districts combined. Highland Middle School is also on Ridge Road, and Granger Elementary is on Wilbur Road. The high school's stadium, built in 2015, has seating for 5,000 people. The high school's mailing address is Medina 44256, like many homes here.
