Valley City is in the middle of Liverpool Township in northern Medina County, where State Route 303 (Center Road) crosses State Route 252 (Columbia Road). It is not a city or a village. It is an unincorporated community, and the 2020 census counted 943 people inside its lines and 5,750 in the whole township.

The First Settlement in Medina County

Liverpool Township is named after Liverpool, England, and township history says it was the first permanent settlement in Medina County. In 1810 Seba Bronson Jr., a Revolutionary War veteran, arrived in the "Hardscrabble" area, at what is now the corner of Columbia Road and Grafton Road. He planted corn, built a home and started a salt works. The township itself was set up in 1816.

That long history shows up in the garages. If your house is an older farmhouse, the garage was probably added years after the house, and it may be detached, with an opening that is not a standard size. Next to the River, Through the Winter

The West Branch of the Rocky River forms the east edge of Valley City, and Plum Creek runs through its west side. The community sits at about 869 feet. There is also a street fair every year on the last weekend of August, and a restored train depot is now the Valley City Depot Museum.
